GC Comes Down to Earth

GC_Sisler 4

After beginning their season with 3 consecutive wins the Garden City football team was brought back to reality. The Sisler Spartans, (arch enemy of the Gophers) handed them their first loss of the season. The Spartan defence was well prepared for the aerial attack of the GC. They attacked with a barrage of blitzes from the opening kickoff. Riley Francey was under siege throughout the whole game and the Gophers did not have any answers for the rushing Spartans. After not being sacked in the 1st three games the Francey was sacked twice in the 1st quarter and once in each of the 3rd and 4th quarters. He was only able to complete 6 of 14 passes for a total of 80 yards, after averaging 340 yards in the first 3 games. Francey was also intercepted twice when his arm was hit as he threw.
The Gophers defence proved to be their downfall in the end as the Spartans were able to come from behind to win the game 24 to 20.
The loss dropped the Gophers to 2nd place with St Pauls now being the only undefeated team.
